One night, while on the road with Rick Trevino, the band was celebrating a hugely successful show. Greg Modesette, Rick's bass player at the time, said, "Hey, why don't we take the bus, grab our wives, and go to as many little beer joints as we can during the Christmas holidays?". I said, "That's the story of my life.". In other words, my formative years as a musician were primarily spent in beer joints and dance halls. In Southeast Texas, a beer joint and a dancehall weren't much different; one was just bigger than the other. I've played some pretty classy beer joints in the last few years like, center stage at the Astrodome, to a sold-out crowd, and the Lincoln Center in New York City. I've concluded that people that appreciate Texas music are pretty much the same, whether they're in a sold-out football stadium or some little joint in a half-horse, Texas, town. So, this CD is a tribute to all those folks I've met over the years. From the ones in fancy clothes, with lots of money, to the working stiff, with calloused hands, who's down to his last $20, but needs a beer and says he loves my music. This CD is as eclectic as the people I've met and the music I've played over the years. It's a direct result of my influences; Tejano, Blues, Country, Rock, Western Swing, and even a little Jazz. Support the Indie Artist
First of all, I want to
thank everybody that purchases a copy of the TBJT cd.
Hopefully, I'll be able to continue creating and playing new music for you.
I am an independent artist. I've
dedicated more than 20 years to earning that title.
During those years my family and I made monetary and personal sacrifices, so
that I
could spend thousands of hours perfecting my singing, playing and songwriting
skills.
Sometimes there wasn't a choice between food or strings - strings fed my soul.
I have just completed my first Indie CD
project. This project has taken several years of
my life, an untold amount of money, the support of my wife and a lot of
sacrifices. I hope for,
but certainly don't expect, acclaim or monetary reward.
Why did I do it?
I believe that God gave me a
Build-a-Gift kit to see what I would do with it. I believe that I've
finally developed his gift, to the extent that I am capable, at this time.
I hope that people
appreciate my efforts, but if they don't, that's OK too. I'm going to
continue perfecting this gift.
Have You Burned a CD Lately?
Burning copies of CD's, or downloading
copyrighted material from the internet, limits the
future of music as an art.
If I can't recover the money spent producing my CD, then I can't produce another one. You may not care if I ever produce new music, but there are millions of Indie artists faced with the same scenario.
If the major labels are the only ones that can afford to absorb the losses from pirating, then you'll only hear what they want you to hear. There won't be anymore "alternative" anything.
If you pay, we'll continue to play.
